SOP on Operation of Laminar airflow in a Micro laboratory

1.0 AIM: To lay down the procedure of Operation of Laminar airflow in the microbiology laboratory.
2.0 SCOPE: This SOP applies to carry out the procedure Operation of Laminar airflow in the microbiology laboratory at a pharmaceutical plant.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
3.1 Executive Microbiologist/ Microbiologist/
3.1.1 Preparation of SOP
3.1.2 Training for New Joiners.
3.1.3 To perform an activity. Keep data as per Good documentation practice.

4.0 DISTRIBUTION:
4.1 Master Copy- Quality Assurance Department
4.2 Control copy- Quality Control Department

5.0 PROCEDURE:
5.1 Connect the main switch to the main supply. Switch “ON” the mains.
5.2 There are three switches and a Magnehelic gauge on the side panel of an instrument. 

  1. Air
  2. Light
  3. UV

5.3 Clean the working bench of LAF with cotton moistened in filtered 70% IPA.
5.4 The airflow and UV should be kept “ON” for 30 minutes before carrying out work under LAF. Check the reading of the Magnehelic gauge; it should be between 10 to 15 pascal when airflow is on.
5.5 During working switch “OFF” the UV light and switch “ON” the tube light
5.6 After working, switch “OFF” the tube light and airflow of LAF.
5.7 After completion of work, clean the working bench of LAF with cotton moistened in filtered 70% IPA
5.8 Record the operation details of LAF in a format as mentioned in Annexure–I
5.9 Maintain the record for UV burning and LAF manometer in a format as mentioned in Annexure-II

6.0 PRECAUTION:
6.1 Clean the LAF after every operation and record the cleaning detail in the logbook.
6.2 Switch off the UV light before starting the operation; otherwise, it can harm your body.
6.3 Maintain the working plate. It should be horizontally planned during operation hours.
