1.0 OBJECTIVE: To lay down a procedure for the Operation of Refrigerator.
2.0 SCOPE: This procedure is applicable to the Operation of the Refrigerator in the microbiology lab.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY: Microbiologist for implementation of this SOP
Head/ Executive Microbiology for overall compliance with this SOP
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY: Head – Quality Control
5.0 PROCEDURE for Operation Of Refrigerator
5.1 Operation :
5.1.1 Connect the power plug to the main power sockets.
5.1.2 Switch ‘ON’ the power supply.
5.1.3 Place calibrated thermometers in a test tube filled with paraffin oil.
5.1.4 Set the thermostat control knob to the ‘NORMAL’ position.
5.1.5 Load the Refrigerator with the items to be stored between 2°C – 8°C.
5.1.6 In case the temperature (2°C – 8°C for the chamber) is not achieved, increase cooling by setting the thermostat to the ‘MAX’ position.
5.1.7 Monitor the temperature twice a day and record the temperature in the format for the Temperature record for the Refrigerator as mentioned in Annexure–I.
